Pacific Mackerel Harvest Status


The Pacific mackerel resource off California, Oregon, and Washington is managed under the authority of the Coastal Pelagic Species Fishery Management Plan on a July 1 through June 30 fishing season. The harvest guideline for July 1, 2006, through June 30, 2007, is 19,845 metric tons (mt). Below is the monthly harvest beginning on July 1, 2006.

The Pacific mackerel harvest guideline for the 2006-2007 season is 19,845 metric tons. Of this total, 13,845 mt has been allocated for a directed fishery which started July 1, 2006. The remainder of the harvest guideline (6,000 mt) has been set aside for incidental take following the closure of the directed fishery, of which 40% Pacific mackerel will be allowed mixed with other CPS species, or up to one metric ton at any percentage.
