MEMORANDUM FOR: All NOAA Employees

FROM: Scott B. Gudes, Deputy Under Secretary

SUBJECT: 30th Anniversary Outreach Toolkit

An important part of NOAAs 30th Anniversary celebration is the wide variety of events taking place across the country. Dr. Baker and I encourage all employees to participate in these activities, whether it be an open house at your facility or taking part in a career day at a local school. To assist you in these endeavors, an Outreach Toolkit was developed providing useful tools for educational programs. I would encourage you to access this toolkit at http://www.30th.noaa.gov/toolkit.html for outreach efforts which you can use in your community.

In addition, we want to recognize NOAA employees who volunteer their time and effort in the community. Accordingly, we have established the NOAA Steward Program. NOAA Stewards are employees who volunteer in their community to increase awareness about the agency. Every employee interested in participating can register as a NOAA Steward with NOAAÆs Office of Public and Constituent Affairs. Please contact Robert Hansen by email at Robert.C.Hansen@noaa.gov, and he will forward registration information to you. The time spent in outreach activities by NOAA Stewards will be recorded, and these efforts will be recognized at the end of the year by NOAA leadership.

If you have any materials or activities that you would like to have included in the toolkit, please let us know. Send your recommendations to Michelle.A.Crockett@noaa.gov, so others can utilize this material. Remember to check the NOAA 30th Anniversary web page for more employee profiles, birthday wishes, NOAA factoids, and a list of events where NOAA will be promoting its 30th Anniversary celebration.
