| The Personnel standing committee met at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January
22. Attendees included: Todd Bucholz, Rosalie del Rosario, Maria Harris, Tim Price,
and Lewis Van Fossen. 1. We discussed the status of the Wellness Program for NOAA
Fisheries. Maria informed the group that attorneys in Silver Springs are reviewing
the workplan for the Wellness Program submitted by the Arcata Office over two years
ago. Because there is not a Wellness Program policy in place for the
Department of Commerce or NOAA, NOAA Fisheries may encounter some obstacles to have one in
place. Maria will follow up on the progress of the Wellness Program.
2. A few years ago, Maria received a hard copy of nearly 1000 addresses of institutions
(many serving minorities) from WASC. The subcommittee has decided to invite each of
the institutions on the list to subscribe to the listserver. Maria will check to see
if there is an electronic version of the list of addresses, which will facilitate mailing
out the invitations. However, if there is no electronic copy of the addresses, the
subcommittee will invite members of the EEOAC to volunteer to help mail out the
invitations (~ 70 invitations each). Also, using the invitation letter and
subscription instructions, Tim will work to get the listserver subscription information on
the NOAA Fisheries website. (Update from Maria Harris as of Jan 28: there is no
electronic version of list.)
3. Todd will work with Maura to formalize the Interview Guidelines work
plan. Todd will contact with Natalie Huff to inquire about existing interview
guidelines, but if none exists, the subcommittee will draft interview guidelines for
review by Human Resources. (Update from Maria Harris as of Jan 28: it appears that
HR has nothing in the way of guidance regarding interview questions. We were told
that a book was purchased from the International Personnel Management Association from
their web site at www.IPMA-HR.org that contained information about interview questions.)
4. The subcommittee had decided not to pursue the workplan to post vacancies in
professional society correspondence (e.g. journals) because timing of vacancy
announcements is problematic and small target audience.
5. Tim will send the EEOAC members a template for formalizing workplans (Update: Tim
sent out template on Jan 28).
6. After the meeting, Lewis volunteered to serve as the Chair of the Personnel
Subcommittee. The next subcommittee meeting will be 10-11
am on Wed, February 12.
