Chairman Tim Price called the meeting to order at 1:35 p.m.
In attendance: Rob Bistodeau, John Clancy, Al Coan, Nancy Lo, Debra Losey, Tim Price, Keith Sakuma, Rosemary Troian, and Maria Harris (SWR). Absent: Dick Butler, Wendy Goo, Kathy Jones, Beth Norton.
The June 2001 minutes was approved.
Debra was asked to redistribute the June minutes (with 6/18/2001 corrections)
Tim said the Census 2000 is completed. Population, race & gender distribution makeup for local work areas probably would be available online soon.
Affirmative Employee Program (AEP) reports are NOAA-wide reports that Tim would like to see added to our EEOAC website and is discussing the matter with Rob.
Nancy suggested to put EEOAC website address, http://swr.nmfs.noaa.gov/eeoac/, on all our correspondence, documents, memos, and agendas as a way of helping our visibility.
The Personnel Subcommittee is working on their list server database along with Rob Bistodeau. The wording for the "first" email announcement was drafted by Wende Goo and checked by Beth Norton. A copy was sent off to Rob so he can add any additional wording for the mechanics of a "list server". A suggestion was made that the Personnel Subcommittee send a draft to executive officers for input and discussion. Tim needs to send to Rob the signed work plan for posting to web site.
The Programs Subcommittee meeting minutes of May 31, 2001 were reviewed and discussed. Al reminded the committee that a replacement for Patricia Mason is still needed. Tim will alert Rebecca Lent of the vacancy at the next SWR Board meeting.
The Administrative Subcommittee is moving toward getting a List server up and running. They anticipate completion in 2 weeks.
Work Plan Discussions
Beths first work plan, a list of web address of free job vacancy announcement sites, was not discussed because she was not present at the meeting.
Beths other work plan, to ask WASC Human Resources for Training, was discussed. Training activities have the advantages of high potential visibility and relatively low cost, and well worth our efforts. Tim thought individual training didnt need to be at every facility. Any training should be coordinated with Ginny Hostler. A suggestion was made that the Personnel Subcommittee further develop the WASC Human Resources Training workplan. They should canvas SWR/SWC employees for possible topics and suggestions and incorporate these comments in the work plan.
John Clancy presented his Contest work plan. The work plan would develop a contest that would be held among SWR/SWC employees for the development of outreach materials.
There was some discussion on rewards (monetary reward?, t-shirts?) and some discussion how to inspire people to participate. The Committee also suggested using the existing NMFS quarterly Power Point presentations as templates to create useful outreach materials. We agreed that it would be good to get a wide range of topics presentations.
We will continue discussion of workplans at future meetings.
Schedule Next Meeting
