APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

The minutes of the June meeting were approved.

OFFICERS' REPORTS

Tim reported that Dick Neal and Rod McInnis had signed off on the workplan to officially change our name to the Southwest Equal Employment Opportunity Advisory Committee. Tim will change the bylaws to reflect the new name and will send a copy to members.

Tim said that a call went out, inviting people to participate in the NOAA Diversity Conference which is being held in Norfolk next week. Jeremy Russin and Nancy Fisher from the Region will attend as well as Steve Miller from the Santa Cruz Laboratory and Stephanie Hall from La Jolla. Program funds will pay for this travel.

SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS

Program: The subcommittee met and approved a draft of a workplan which would involve the La Jolla Lab cooperating with an inner city school. Tim suggested that the workplan be modified to make it a more general plan so that the plan can be used by all labs and offices in the Region. Rosemary will revise the workplan and send it out for members' approval. When a quorum is reached, the plan will be sent to Rod McInnis and Bill Fox for signature.

Tim reported that Marty Golden received an award for his work on the IDP workplan.

The next meeting of the Program subcommittee has not been set up. Rosemary will send an e-mail notice.

Administrative: Jeremy Russin reported that the Administration subcommittee met and discussed the three workplans which apply to them. The first, maintaining the Website, is in progress. The quarterly reports will be pulled from the Website where people have recorded their outreach activities. The yearly reports can be compiled from the quarterly reports.

Stephanie Johnson is going back to school and will be missed on the EEOAC.

The next meeting of the Administrative subcommittee will be July 29 at 10:00.

Personnel: Maria Harris and Nancy Fisher met and discussed the Listserver workplan. Maria filled Nancy in on the history of the plan and Nancy also spoke with Rosalie del Rosario, who used to be on the committee, to get a better idea of the scope of the plan.

Nancy has solicited some lists and once labels have been typed, each location will get a letter inviting them to be on the listserver.

Nancy has also been reviewing the Interview Questions workplan and doing research with WASC and Office of Personnel Management so that the subcommittee can fulfill the workplan. Natalie Huff and Kitty Clark gave some good ideas to Nancy during their visit to the office.

EEO training was conducted by Natalie and Kitty at all labs and region offices.

The next Personnel subcommittee meeting will be held on July 28 at 9:00.

Old Business: Tim said we would review the comments on the IDP training at the August meeting.

New Business: Tim said that Bill Hogarth reported on an all-hands meeting/picnic which was held at Headquarters. The Long Beach office is planning a beach party on Aug. 28. The EEOAC members in Long Beach will help with the party. Tim encouraged other locations to have employee get-togethers.

Announcements: There will be a Career Fair at USC on Oct. 7, but since they are charging $475 to participate in the fair, the Southwest Region is not likely to participate.

Next Meeting:

Our next meeting will be August 4 at 1:00 p.m.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:30 p.m.
