SOUTHWEST EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE (EEOAC)
MEETING MINUTES

March 2, 2005

Attendees: Jeremy Rusin, Jessica Kondel, Laura Tezer, Nancy Fisher, Rod Miller, Rick Rogers, Rick Wantuck, and Advisor Maria Harris. Absent: Jessica Matson, Jeff McLain, Carlos Garza, and Eleanor Domalaog.

1. Jeremy Rusin, Chair, opened the meeting at 1:05 p.m.

2. The Minutes from the February meeting were approved.

3. Officer's Reports: Jeremy indicated that he did not have much time to do any assigned tasks, but hopes make more progress by next meeting.

4. Subcommittee Reports:

a. Program - Laura reported that this was also a very busy month for her and she did not have time to work on anything. Program Subcommittee meetings will be held on an ad hoc basis.

b. Administrative - Jessica is the sole member of this subcommittee at this time and, therefore, did not hold a meeting. She did, however, update the web page to include updates with regards to new members and subcommittees. She added Rosemary's photo to the web page, as well. There is still a plan to develop regional activities to do pertaining to the various diversity awareness months. Committee Action: Submit ideas for EEOAC/Diversity activities to Jessica.

c. Personnel - Nancy reported that she held a meeting in February to review a draft interview questionnaire she prepared as part of the Interview Question Workplan. The purpose of the questionnaire is to remind interviewers of which questions they can and cannot ask in an interview so as not to solicit protected information from the applicant. Once Maria receives clarification on a few items on the questionnaire from HR at WASC, Nancy will update the questionnaire and present it to the whole EEOAC committee for review. The Personnel Subcommittee meetings are held on an ad hoc basis.

5. Old Business: None

6. New Business: Some of the EEOAC new members had questions as to how this committee came about and what its purpose is. Rick Wantuck stated that the committee was first established by Bill Hogarth who was the Regional Administrator at the time, and then passed down to Rod McInnis, who is the current Regional Administrator. According to the Bylaws, the purpose of the Southwest (SW) EEOAC is to enhance EEO and Affirmative Employment Program (AEP) communication between employees and management and serve in an advisory capacity on employee concerns regarding the EEO/AEP. Action: Jeremy to forward the link to the EEOAC Bylaws to all committee members. Members are to review bylaws prior to the next meeting in the hopes that the bylaws will generate questions and provide a basis for discussion of the Committee's and members' roles, as well as ideas for future direction. Committee members are also requested to review Article II, PURPOSE, and then consider their specific work environment and how the SW EEOAC might initiate activities to improve deficient areas.

7. Announcements: None

8. Next Meeting Date: April 6, 2005

9. Adjournment: Meeting was adjourned at 1:55 p.m.
